Walton Harbor site is shaping up

UPDATE: Tower Heights Apartments are long gone. The site’s 16 buildings were demolished to make way for Walton Harbor, which willl feature 162 new, upscale apartments.
The new units will be similar in scale and quality to units in Gainesville’s Walton Summit, which replaced Green Hunter Homes (aka Atlanta St. Apartments) in 2017-2018.
Former residents of Tower Heights were provided new apartments and had assistance throughout the preparation and moving process.
Walton Harbor will replace the 60-year-old Tower Heights to meet modern housing codes and regulations and also to provide energy-efficient appliances and low maintanance materials.
Walton Harbor will be built in two phases; Phase I will offer 81 units for families. This phase will be completed by January 2022. The second phase, Legacy at Walton Summit, will offer housing for those 55 years and above, and construction is slated to be complete in early 2023. The Legacy phase also offers 81 units.
Both phases will serve families living below 80 percent of the median income. The project is funded through the low-income housing tax credit program, CDBG funds from City of Gainesville and GHA funds. 2023.
The application process for residential housing at Walton Harbor is tentatively scheduled for late in 2021.

Here is a look at the condition of Walton Harbor as of March 17, 2021.
